What April Fools' Is

April Fools' Day is an annual holiday or custom celebrated worldwide every April 1.  Many people pull pranks on others especially on this day.  April Fools' dates as far back as the 1560s when a poet wrote about a man who "sent his servant back and forth" to run errands for him.  On an article I read from Reader's Digest, it was noted that this habit had spread widely in Europe in the late 1600s.  I'm not entirely sure of the exact origin of this non-religious holiday since there have been many speculations as to where and how it originated.  However, I honestly think that it's a silly idea to mark a day every year solely for pranking people.  Just the idea alone, no matter how humorous it can be, is silly enough to me.  I don't want to sound like a hypocrite since I have pulled pranks before myself, I just don't think we should have a holiday just for pranks.  I also think we should be careful of the pranks we pull because we can never know the effect our actions have on people.
